THE public now has a guide as to which areas to avoid or to be on guard after the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) identified at least 23 crime-prone areas in Cebu City.

Based on their updated list, T. Padilla police (Precinct 1) has the most number of crime-prone areas, which include Colon St., T. Padilla Ext., Imus St., P. del Rosario St., Pelaez St. and Osmeña Blvd., particularly near the Sanciangko intersection.

Another part of Osmeña Blvd., specifically near Anita’s Bakeshop and the skywalk between Robinson’s department store and the SIH nurses’ dormitory, are the two crime-prone areas under the Fuente Police Station.

For Waterfront police, M. J. Cuenco Ave. and the port area are their problem areas, while the North Reclamation Area is among the crime-prone areas under Mabolo police.

For Carbon police, Colon St. and the vicinity of the University of San Jose-Recoletos and Carbon market are considered areas where crime is likely to happen.

N. Bacalso Ave. and C. Padilla St. are areas the San Nicolas police have to watch closely.

The first six police stations of CCPO have always been identified to have the most number of crime-prone areas.

Most of the crimes committed in these areas are theft and robbery.

Last year, crime volume in the city increased by 68 percent compared to the figures in 2001. But in both years, theft and robbery cases topped the list.

CCPO Deputy Chief Alexander Abadinas said that in the morning, beat patrol policemen will take care of the identified crime-prone areas while Mobile Patrol Group police will be patrolling the area at night.

Abadinas said they want the public to be aware of the crime-prone areas so they will know where they should take extra care.
