Spat over laser light kills man
By Oscar C. Pineda

A MAN was shot dead and his aunt is in serious condition after two families in Lapu-Lapu City clashed Thursday at 11 p.m.—all because of a laser light.

The shooting happened the night before their scheduled hearing with the Barangay Maribago Lupon Tagapamayapa.

The aunt had filed a complaint against one of the suspects for training his laser flashlight on her, allegedly causing her to fall to the ground.

Homicide Chief Geoffrey Baguio identified the fatality as Ricardo Augusto Pangatungan, 31, a carpenter, and the aunt as Bonifacia Igot-Pangatungan, 62.

Heart pierced

A bullet hit Ricardo’s chest and pierced his heart, causing his death.

Bonifacia was hit in the stomach and buttocks. She was undergoing operation as of press time at the Mactan Community Hospital.

Both victims were from Hagna, Sitio Looc, Barangay Maribago.

Police are now looking for the other three suspects.

Baguio said they already arrested the fourth suspect, Rito Pangatungan.

Those still at large are Teresita “Sito” Declanan, Joselito “Lito” Declanan and Iglenario “Igling” Declanan.

Sito and Iglenario are brothers.

Joselito is their nephew and the arrested Rito is their brother-in law.

It was not established whether Rito is related to the victims.

Root of trouble

The shooting erupted when victim Ricardo confronted Sito while in a drinking session Thursday night, said Baguio.

Ricardo was drinking with his brother Berto, while Sito was with an unidentified companion.
Ricardo approached Sito and asked him about Rito’s whereabouts.

Earlier, Rito reportedly trained a laser light at Bonifacia, prompting the woman to file a complaint with the barangay.

Irked by Ricardo’s queries, Sito cut him short and told him the case is already with the barangay.

Ricardo then told Sito: “Mao gyud mo mga traydor mo,” (Well that’s what you all are, traitors).

Angered by Ricardo’s statement, Sito allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Ricardo in the chest, in front of Berto and the victim’s wife, Elsie.

The two immediately rushed Ricardo to the hospital, while Sito fled.

Attack

Right after the incident, the other suspects reportedly went to Bonifacia’s house.

Bonifacia’s daughter, a certain Mrs. Amistad, told Sun.Star her mother Bonifacia has just gone out of the comfort room when three suspects met and shot her.

She identified the three as Iglenario, Rito and Joselito. It was not clear whether Sito was with them as it was already past 11 p.m.

Baguio said they are now getting affidavits from witnesses in the shooting, while another team is looking for the three suspects who still remained at large yesterday.
