Del Castillo, Bacon log short victories in ALA Gym boxing By Rommel C. Manlosa Sun.Star Staf Reporter
ROLLEN del Castillo of Cabancalan National High School and James Bacon of Maguikay Elementary School shone best as they scored separated stoppages over their respective rivals in the Weekly Amateur Boxing Challenge at the ALA Gym.
While national achievers Alex John Banal of Talamban NHS and Rey Caitom of Cabancalan NHS pulled equally one-sided 3-0 victories in their divisions.
Del Castillo had a quick workout as he stopped Julie Horca of Pit-os National High School with a Referee Stop Contest-Outclass decision in 1:28 of the first round in the 42-kilogram division, while Bacon had a separate RSC-O win in 44 seconds of the second round over Jade Cabarse of Cabancalan NHS in the 34kg match.
Banal, on the other hand, made mincemeat of Roel Macario of the University of the Visayas in their 48kg encounter even as Caitom showed too much class over Ruther del Castillo, who is also a member of the Cabancalan NHS boxing team in the 42kg match.
Other winners were Arnel Borbon of Talamban Elementary School, who scored a 3-0 win against Jojo Lapeña of Banilad ES (32kg), Renzi Cabarubyas of Cabancalan NHS over schoolmate Mark Vincent Paro (37kg), Kevin Sia also of Cabancalan NHS scoring a 3-0 win against Edrierick Blanco of Banilad ES (38kg).
Marjo Borres of Talamban NHS pulled a lopsided decision against Alberto Maluya of Cabancalan NHS (39kg), Nicolo Baguio of Pit-os NHS scored a unanimous verdict over Remar Naingue of Cabancalan NHS (40kg), Jessie Basaca peppered Ramon Allanic of Gothong NHS (41kg), Jojo Ouano of Talamban NHS blanked Norberto Taño of Cabancalan NHS (42kg) and John Mark Bactol of Cabancalan ES scored the lone close victory over Wilbert Loberanis of Maguikay ES in the 27kg division.
