MLKP wants payback in NBL south swing
By Rommel C. Manlosa

CEBU City representative M. Lhuillier-Kwarta Padala (MLKP) is bracing to make a comeback when the National Basketball League swings to the Southern Leg of the tournament starting March 19 in Ozamis City.

This as the NBL is looking to expand before the start of the National Championships scheduled for April 11 to July 15.

The Jewelers are looking to intensify their line-up with a mixture of youth and experience. They hired ML Kwarta Padala inside operator Jessie Lumantas while resident reinforcement Daryl Smith has been allowed to join the team.

MLKP also retained the services of behemoth Bonnel Balingit and Zaldy Realubit while adding more flesh at the backcourt with Aldrich Reyes.

The union of the sister squads Kwarta Padala and M. Lhuillier is now complete after ML Kwarta Padala coach Eddie Ybañez agreed to sit down as assistant to Yayoy Alcoseba starting the Southern Leg.

Meanwhile, the NBL is expecting the participation of a second team coming from Pampanga to join the University of the Assumption Blue Pelicans, after former Pampanga Stars head coach and team manager Alan Trinidad expressed willingness to put up another Pampanga-based squad.

Tarlac City is also coming up with a team as the former Cagayan de Oro Amigos general manager Ronnie Natividad is now organizing a team to represent his home province.

Talks are going on with Bacolod City’s Butch Disini for one more team in the Visayas to join Spring Cooking Oil-Malabon, the Forward Taguig, NBL Luzon leg champions Shineway Ham Sausage of Ozamis City and the other teams.

While invitations have also been sent to Olongapo City, Davao City and to the Cebu-based canning corporation, Virginia Foods Inc.

NBL top honchos are expecting more corporate sponsorship to come in with the televised games from the opening to the finals.
