Mother has son arrested
By Oscar C. Pineda

HAVING no money to send her son to a drug rehabilitation center, a mother in Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City had him arrested instead.

The court recommended a P100,000 bail but Lemuel Lozano, 22, wasn’t able to put up the amount so he was sent to the city jail yesterday.

Lapu-Lapu City police investigator SPO2 Mario Poblete said Divina Booc Lozano, 43, turned over her son to the police last Wednesday night.

The mother caught her son in possession of suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia early that afternoon so she brought him, with the help of her other son, to the police.

She can no longer stand her son’s addiction as he always asks for money and goes wild if she fails to give him any,” said Poblete.

Divina related to Poblete that her son used to have a job and helped in the family expenses. Her husband is a tricycle driver.

Lemuel started hanging out with drug addicts in their neighborhood and he eventually lost his job.

That early afternoon, while tending to her daily chores, her son came home apparently high on drugs and holding a blue plastic box.

Suspicious that the box contained drugs, Divina grabbed it and examined its contents.

Inside the box were a pack of shabu, blue lighter, improvised wicks, three empty packs with shabu residue and three aluminum foils with shabu residue.

Divina submitted all the items to the police for laboratory examination. The findings yesterday showed the substance was shabu.

The police used the findings as evidence in the case they filed against Lemuel.
