Cviraa opens today By Jade S. Violeta
THOUSANDS of athletes and officials from all over the Region 7 gather at the Gov. Perdices Memorial Coliseum today as the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) meet formally opens in Dumaguete City.
Athletes from the school districts of Cebu City, Cebu Province, Bohol, Siquijor, Dumaguete, Mandaue and host Negros Oriental will compete in 16 sports disciplines in both the Elementary and Secondary levels in the event which will run up to March 21.
In the Secondary division, the events to be contested are Volleyball, Lawn Tennis and Football which will be held in Bais City. Dancesports will be in Tanjay City and Secondary Football in Bais City.
The rest of the venues are as follows: Foundation University (Baseball and Elementary Volleyball), Silliman University (Football and Archery), Negros Oriental High School (Sepak Takraw), Boys Scouts of the Philippines building (Chess), Macias Sports Complex (Gymnastics), Perdices Memorial Coliseum (Athletics and Baseball) and the Aquatic Center (Swimming).
The Cebu City Niños, who sent the biggest number of delegates with 590 athletes, coaches, officials and chaperones, will be gunning for an unprecedented 10th overall championship title, while host Negros Oriental has the second largest number of delegates with 422. |
