SWU in semis today
By Edmundo T. Maxilom of Super Balita

SOUTHWESTERN University Women’s team will do its best to win its semifinal game today in the 7th Nestea Beach Volleyball Championship at Power Plant sandcourt, Makati City.

If SWU wins, it will carry a Top 8-team distinction into the finals in April in Boracay, said team coach Thelma Paras-Datig in a phone interview yesterday with Sun.Star Cebu.

“We will show a lot of confidence. Only one Manila team is strong. Most of the strong teams are from the Visayas,” Datig said.

SWU players Janeth Ponte and Floriane Gutierrez entered the semifinals after they buried University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in a convincing manner, 21-11, the other day.

However, Ponte has a little problem as she is now suffering from fever due to the coldness of the air-conditioner in their room.

“I already gave Janeth medicine for her fever so that she can recover and give her best,” said Paras-Datig.

Meanwhile, the SWU Men’s team failed to make it to the semifinals.

While the Women and Men’s teams of University of San Jose-Recoletos and
University of San Carlos made it to the semifinal round.

University of Cebu’s Men’s team is also in the semis, but both the Men and Women’s teams of the University of Visayas were booted out.

Last night the 12 teams met and drew lots. Eight teams will qualify for the final round.
