Buhain believes Tubod Palaro will be peaceful By Christian Ben Rodriguez
PHILIPPINE Sports Commission Chairman Eric Buhain said he is confident everything will be peaceful during the Palarong Pambansa in Tubod, Lanao del Norte in May.
Buhain told Sun.Star he is certain there will be no untoward incidents that will happen to the athletes as far as security is concerned.
He said sometime last week, Eric Canoy on RMN radio said he interviewed “Kumander Bravo,” who said they will even help protect the participants.
The PSC chief also said the incident last week (of an ambush allegedly by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front) was more personal than ideological and the Palaro has nothing to do with that.
He added that the governor and congressmen of Lanao will give their full support in the security and safety of the delegates during the weeklong competition.
“We were given assurances by both parties and have heard of their intention to help protect the Palaro and we are happy about it,” Buhain said.
However, Buhain is set to contact all persons concerned after he gets back from Australia.
He said he will set up a meeting with the governors, mayors, regional directors, coaches and athletes sometime in the first week of March to coordinate the final plans of the May Palaro.
“We will get a balanced assessment of everything and as far as everybody is concerned the Palaro is still a go in Tubod,” Buhain said.
