Iecep-Tesda, Microwarehouse launch partnership
By Cherry T. Lim

MICROWAREHOUSE, distributor of 3Com networking equipment, has announced its partnership with the Institute of Electronics & Communications Engineers of the Philippines (Iecep)-Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) to provide the equipment for the latter’s networking courses.

Thamar Tan, training center officer of the Iecep-Tesda Training Center, said the two parties had signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) last February and that the partnership had begun early this month.

During a press conference yesterday at White House Filipino Grill, Rosanna Revillame, general manager of Microwarehouse, said the tie-up with Iecep-Tesda was an expression of the company’s “social responsibility.”

Under the MOA, Microwarehouse would lend 3Com equipment for free to the Iecep-Visayas Regional Chapter for use during the training activities, as well as provide a 3Com certification for partners CD and product guide for reference in coming up with training programs.

Trainers’ training

It would also conduct a trainers’ training to trainers from Iecep-VRC, who would be the ones to conduct the Iecep-Tesda training to interested enrollees.

Tan said each networking course would run for 30 hours. The enrollment fee is P2,500. The course could be completed in four days if one takes the day sessions and about two weeks if one goes for the night sessions.

After six months, Revillame said, Microware-house will donate to the Tesda some of the equipment it is now lending for use in the training center.

The rest of the equipment would be sold to Tesda “at reasonable terms and conditions.”

According to the MOA, the partnership will last for a period of three years.

Iecep, the professional organization of electronics and communications engineers, has been “co-managing” the training center of Tesda 7 since 1998 when the Tesda sought the help of private groups to assist in providing training on the latest technologies and skills to the public, Tan said.
