2 robbers grab P80T from bank; 1caught
By Rene H. Martel

TWO robbers left Palawan Bank in Liloan, Cebu with about P80,000 to P90,000 in loot yesterday afternoon.

They were able to disarm the lone security guard with his shotgun.
Policemen, however, caught one of them after the security guard managed to report the incident quickly through his mobile phone.

Recovered from the suspect was a brown knapsack containing P30,950, part of the cash they took.

SPO2 Jesus Jimenea, Liloan police investigator, identified the arrested suspect as Julito Moreno Garcia, 30, of Talibon, Bohol and temporarily living in Galaxy, Maguikay, Mandaue City.

Convinced

Garcia, who owned up to the crime, identified his companion as Tomas Tor-reon, 25, of Ibabao, Man-daue City. He claimed the latter convinced him to take part in the robbery.

Aside from the cash, which was placed inside a light brown knapsack, Garcia also yielded a mobile phone and a .38 revolver loaded with five bullets.

PO2 Rotchell Jugalbot, Liloan police desk investigator, said Garcia narrated that Torreon first approached him last March 23 during a neighbor’s birthday.

That was when Torreon broached the idea of robbing the bank.

It took Garcia and Torreon less than five minutes to disarm security guard Longinos Villorejo, 24, and take the cash from cashier Melva Gayo.

Weapons

Only Villorejo, Gayo and another employee were in the bank when the two pulled the heist.

Jimenea said the two men, armed with a revolver and a Batangas knife, entered the bank and immediately told Villorejo to lie on the floor before taking his shotgun and eight bullets.

The police believe the suspects were merely cash-strapped individuals. The robbery, they said, was haphazardly done. The two didn’t have a lookout and a getaway vehicle.

After the robbery, suspects simply hitched a ride from a passing truck and disembarked at a corner of the highway leading to Liloan Central School, perhaps to mislead authorities.

Villorejo, however, ran after the two men while contacting the police through his cellular phone.

His call prompted police to send a team led by SPO4s Antonio Acuña and Venecio Pepito to pursue the two.
