Karryl, RG Ice post victories
By Christian Ben Rodriguez

KARRYL Love took its first win in the 2003 Guardo-Arthro Summer Slam, beating K Gallery, 81-70, last Wednesday at the Visayan Glass Gym.

While RG Ice Plant logged its second victory in the tournament by defeating Lite Shipping Corp., 95-63, in the first game.

Blue Espinosa started the early attack against K Gallery while Anthony Colmenares provided the inside game with Mark Rama compiling his points with short stabs as Karryl took a 23-19 advantage during the first quarter.

The undermanned Karryl Love cagers seemed to have luck on its side as they were able to sink almost impossible shots, while K Gallery had a hard time putting the ball into the hoop.

Ker-Ker de la Peña, however, was able to hold K Gallery together with the help of Anthony San Juan, who was able to make his outside shots to come close, 39-44, at the end of the first half.

Karryl then started surging back with fastbreak points through the efforts of Nonoc Espinosa and Jonathan Miller.

San Juan, hitting from behind the 3-pointer line, and De la Peña tried to rescue K Gallery, but their efforts were not enough as Karryl Love held on to the momentum for its first win.

Karryl Love (81) – Miller 14, Bacalso 11, B. Espinosa 10, N. Espinosa 10, Estrera 9, Colmenares 8, Rama 6, Alonzo 4, Semblante 3. K Gallery (70) – San Juan 17, de le Peña 11, Abellanosa 11, Saducas 9, Sabay 6, Española 6, Biano 3, Kiamko 2, Candela 1.
