Suico: I’ll make short work of Indon pug By Rommel C. Manlosa
RANDY “Kumo’ng Bato” Suico, the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation super featherweight champion, promised to end his fight with Timbul Hutagalung faster than his Indonesian foe can take off his shoes tomorrow at the Lapu-Lapu Sports Center.
At the Scoop-Cebu forum yesterday at Baseline Restaurant, Suico faced off with Hutagalung for the first time. Judging by the looks of his opponent, the 22-year-old Golden Boy declared the fight would not exceed five rounds.
“My hands are all right and there’s no point in giving my foe more rounds because everything will be swift and he will not notice it,” Suico said.
With his excellent 18-0 win-loss record peppered with 16 knockouts, Suico’s comment was supported by Gladiators Sports executive Paul Pereyra, who said he is confident the Cebuano warrior will put up a good show in his quest to get a crack at the world championship.
“I have no doubt on Randy’s victory, but the manner on how will he finish the opponent is the question. Hutagalung is a respected fighter. His ring record shows it,” Pereyra said.
Hutagalung, rated No.5 by the OPBF, is a former Pan-Asia Boxing Association jr. lightweight champion. He holds a decent ring record of 15 wins, three loses and five draws – three by knockout.
The card is promoted by Rex “Wakee” Salud in cooperation with Akihiko Honda and Teiken Promotions. It will also showcase another world-rated fighter Eriberto “Ioka” Gejon, who will try to raise his 13-0-1 win-loss-draw record (7KOs) against Rober Gadian for 10 rounds.
