Yeo, Hing rule
By Patrick C. Costelo

ALEX Yeo and Dominic Hing combined for 35 strokes in the back nine to erect a three-point cushion, enough for them to take home Class A’s top plum in the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club’s Monthly Medal four-ball stroke play Sunday in Pardo, this city.

Despite staying at the top of their cluster with a 36-point front nine, Yeo and Hing were still at Ben Yu and Edward Chu’s striking distance.
The Yu and Chu duo gunned for 37 strokes in the front nine to sniff Yeo and Hing’s trail by a measly point but the latter went hot in the next nine with a 35, while Yu and Chu maintained their 37-point performance to stay behind by three strokes after logging a total of 74.

In Class B, King Beng Ong and Eugene Tio had a slim one-stroke edge to nab the No.1 spot when the pair racked up a 76. Ong and Tio similarly took a one-point edge over runners-up Edwin Go Lim and Glenn Sebastulan, 36-37, after the first nine holes.

Despite slumping with a 40-point performance in the back nine, Ong and Tio had a lucky break when Lim and Sebastian logged an identical 40, thus maintaining their one-point lead.

There was also stiff competition in Class C where two pairs clashed for the pole post down the wire.

Ed Sanchez and Greg Gepitulan started out with a 39 in the first nine holes, while Butch Aleta and Nonoy Alba built a two-point edge with a 37. However, Sanchez and Gepitulan got back into contention after the back nine when the tandem made a 43 while Aleta and Alba only managed a 45, to force an 82-all deadlock.

Sanchez and Gepitulan got the upper hand after the tiebreak based on the score in the last nine holes.

In the meantime, Ramontito Garcia clinched the Class A championship in last week’s Tournament of Aces also at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club. Joebeet Yap captured the Class B diadem while Allan Lua ruled Class C. Rolly Santos took the Seniors division title.
