Cebu X sales fall 15%: cfif

THE Cebu International Furniture & Furnishings Exhibition 2003 (Cebu X) held last Feb. 26- March 1 generated $23.1 million in sales, a 15 percent drop from the $27.3 million generated in the 2002 show.

According to the Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation Inc. (CFIF), which organized the show, the Middle East accounted for the bulk of the sales at 34.19 percent or $7.9 million, folllowed by Europe with sales of $4.6 million.

North America accounted for $4 million, and Asia, $2.2 million.

The show drew 1,227 buyers, just one buyer less than last year’s 1,228, at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

The buyers from 61 countries were mostly wholesalers, 37 percent; retailers, 25 percent; and manufacturers, 12 percent.

There were also interior designers, 10 percent; architects, 5.35 percent; and representatives of buying offices, 5.17 percent.

The CFIF, the Philippine furniture export industry’s primary support organization, is composed of 173 furniture and manufacturing firms.

The CFIF is now preparing for the 2004 show(www.cebuexhibition.com) and will send a trade mission to the Milan Show, iSaloni, in Italy next week.
