500 bikers take part in Ormoc bikefest today

ALL bike roads lead to Ormoc City today as the Terry Larrazabal bicycle competition blasts off today with around 500 mountainbike, road and BMX riders expected to join the two-day grind.

The event, which according to the organizers, is a holistic approach to mountainbiking and cycling in general, will formally open at seven in the morning for the distribution of materials to the riders and the final briefing and instruction at the Ormoc City Plaza in front of the Don Felipe Hotel.

The formal contest in the road bike criterium’s Beginners and Elite/Pro-Am divisions will be held from 1:30-2:45 p.m. followed by the People’s Races from 3-3:45 p.m.

The Mountainbike Criterium races in the Beginners and Elite/Pro-Am categories will follow at 4-5:15 p.m. while the BMX Races will be held at 5:30-6 p.m.

The other activities in the opening day include the briefing for the Cross Country, Downhill and Dual – Slalom races at 7 p.m. at the Ormoc Centrum Mall.

Formal race in the Cross Country category will be at 8:30-10:30 a.m. tomorrow, while the Downhill competition will be staged at 1:30 p.m. in Bantigue followed by the Modified Slalom competition.

The race categories to be featured in the competitions are the Juniors (15-19-years old), Seniors (20-29), Masters (30-39), Veterans (40-above), Elite/Pro-Am (Open), Beginners (open) and Women’s (open) divisions.

The champion in the Elite/Pro-Am division will receive a pair of Rudy Project glasses and P5,000 cash, while the second and third-place winners will pocket 3,000 and 2,000, respectively.
