GAB orders RP title fight
By Rommel C. Manlosa

THE Games and Amusement Board ordered Rolly Lunas to defend his RP flyweight belt against interim champion Z Gorres – the Cebuano boxing sensation.

The fight has been scheduled for June 1. If Lunas refuses to fight Gorres, he will be stripped of the title. Gorres has been the mandatory challenger since late last year.

“Lunas was ordered to comply with the mandate of the promoters or suffer the consequences,” said Cebu’s foremost boxing patron and Gorres’ manager, Antonio Lopez Aldeguer.

Lunas asked for another postponement of the title fight as he is scheduled to fight in Japan on April 27. Jun Sarreal, who manages Lunas, asked Aldeguer to step aside before the June 1 encounter.

P130,000 purse

“Jun Sarreal asked me to step aside for a while because Lunas has a fight in Japan,” said Aldeguer. “But when he told me they want P130,000 in purse money, I told them that’s too much.

“They asked me to step aside but they’re pushing their luck. It’s an injustice to us. Gorres
got the interim title after winning by a sixth-round KO over Roy Balataria last March 15 in Luneta Park.”

The Lunas-Gorres fight will be promoted during the “Araw ng Makati” on June 1 as requested by Mayor Jejomar Binay of Makati City.

Gorres became the project of boxing patron Rudy Salud after seeing the young member of the New Generation ALA Boys deck an opponent.

Gorres totes an immaculate win-loss record of 12-0 packed with seven knockout victories. Lunas holds a 12-1 7 KO record.
