STREAK-SHOOTER Chester Cokaliong fired 20 of his 50 points, the league’s season highest, in a fiery fourth-quarter siege to lead Pilipinas Shell ’78 to a 112-89 whipping of Chester Enterprises ’83 in the Cecaba-5th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the City Sports Club gym.

Cokaliong’s 50 pales to his career-high 103 points last year but it was enough to strengthen Class ’78’s bid for a quarterfinal slot as it picked its sixth win against six losses. Class ’83 slipped to 9-3.

Cokaliong made 10-of-14 from the two-point area and sank 10 triples, while Joven Cimafranca ably backed him up with 26 points.

Class ‘78’s final assignment will be against Villa Shipping ‘70s on April 13. A victory will give the 1978 batch an automatic slot to the quarterfinal round.

Meanwhile, Joel Chan scored 25 points as Tsibogs ‘85 improved to 7-3 by whipping Osam Enterprises ’84, 72-66. Batch ’84 slipped to 5-6.

Sammy Sia finished with 30 markers to lead the embattled Class ’84, now trying to thwart elimination as it plays its last two elimination-round games.

Class ‘78 only had a seven-point lead after three quarters, 75-68, before Cokaliong caught fire as he dropped four of his 10 treys in the final canto to outscore the younger batch, 37-21.
