Resolving conflicts in family business

THE University of Southern Philippines (USP)-based Cebu Mediation Foundation Inc. (CMFI) will hold a unique program to help family small and medium enterprises decisively resolve or better manage the conflicts that normally beset family-run or -owned corporations.

Part 1 of CMFI’s high- impact program, which is a collaborative undertaking with the Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation Inc., is a workshop on understanding family businesses from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, at the Training Room of the Alumni Hall of the USP, main campus, Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City.

Part 2 has two principal components. First, a three-day seminar-workshop on conflict management for family and other businesses will be held from May 29- 31. Second is a five-month family mediation clinic, comprising two major elements: a) mentorship on the setting up of a conflict management system in the workplace; and b) “on-call” services of a professional mediator.

For all the above activities, participating companies shall be entitled to two slots at a one-time payment of just P3,500 because CMFI has received funding subsidy courtesy of The Asia Foundation Inc. through a grant from the Usaid. An additional P500 shall entitle companies to one additional representative.

Inquiries may be directed to Charlyn Latras at the Vocational Technology Building, USP at 232-1583/414-7484.
