Conference set for firms interested in outsourcing

THE European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) will hold a conference on the importance of quality management (QM) certification for global competitiveness in the international information technology (IT) service market.

India, the Philippines’ toughest competitor in this sector, has registered a huge number of CMM and ISO certified IT service companies, said the ECCP. In the Philippines, there are less than five CMM certified firms.

During the conference, to be held on May 16, case studies will be presented to stress that QM certification is a “must” for firms going into the fast-growing business process outsourcing industry.

To speak are Joselyn Capistrano, Narayanan Sreenivas, Henry Schumacher, Gina Duminy and Patrick Ferrer.

Capistrano is the only lead assessor for CMM certification in the Philippines. She is a consultant for the Information Technology and E-Commerce Council under the Office of the President.

Sreenivas is managing director of ECC International, a consultancy and training firm for ISO, Environmental Management System, CMM and other international
standards.

Schumacher, executive vice president of ECCP and president of the European
IT Service Centre, has been promoting the IT outsourcing sector and taking the lead in creating a bridge for business opportunities between Europe and the Philippines.

Duminy is the lead person in the development of the Outsource Philippines gateway and vice president-external affairs of the Philippine Internet Commerce Society. She also organized the Itpros website, which provides services for job hunters and employers in the IT industry.

Ferrer represents the Project Management Institute and is an expert on PMP certification.

The conference will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cebu City Marriott Hotel. Inquiries may be made at jeremy@eccp.com.
