Teddy, Joy have most number of kin working at Mandaue CH By Aledel A. Gonzales
SOME 60 relatives of the elected officials of Mandaue City are working for the government, most of them for City Hall.
Mayor Thadeo “Teddy” Ouano and his sister, Councilor Jovita Tuela “Joy” Ouano, have the most number of relatives in government service, all of them working for City Hall.
Councilor Wenceslao Gakit is the only elected official without any relative within the fourth degree of affinity or consanguinity working for the government.
Based on the officials’ annual statement of assets and liabilities (SAL), most of their relatives work in different departments of City Hall, while the rest are in other government agencies.
About 17 of these relatives are the officials’ siblings, nephews and nieces, while 15 are in-laws and nine are cousins.
Teddy’s SAL named eight of his relatives in government service, but he did not include his wife, Linda; his father, former mayor Alfredo “Pedong” Ouano; and his son-in-law, Nixon “Jojo” Dizon, in the list.
Linda, however, is identified as executive assistant on social affairs in the portion of the SAL where the name of the official’s spouse is written.
Pedong is Teddy’s senior adviser and consultant.
Jojo, husband of Teddy’s daughter, Emmarie “Lollipop” Ouano-Dizon, is the mayor’s consultant on police affairs and the action officer of the Videogram Regulatory Board for Region 7.
Jojo, however, is not included in Joy’s list of relatives working for government.
She included, though, Jovito Thadeo “Jongkie” Ouano, Teddy’s youngest son, as special assistant to the mayor.
It is the first time since Teddy sat in office that Jongkie’s name is included in the SAL.
City Councilor Raul “Pokang” Cabahug is the official with the second highest number of relatives in government service.
Including his wife, Looc Barangay Captain Editha Cabahug, Pokang has eight relatives in government service.
Vice Mayor Amadeo Seno Jr. has seven relatives in government service but three of them are working outside Mandaue City.
His brother, Malcolm, is city legal officer of Mandaue.
