Guardo ’85 sweeps Rudy Project 1988 for CBA div. I title
By Patrick C. Costelo

GUARDO Shiatsu ’85 swept the Division I Finals series after clinching Game 2, 94-82, against Rudy Project ’88 in the Osaka-Carolinian Basketball Association (CBA) Tuesday night at the Guadalupe Sports Center.

In Division II, the SkyGo Riders ‘95 exploited their height advantage over Guardo Arthro ’96, sweeping their own best-of-three Finals series through a 95-86 win.

Edwin Banaag led the two-time defending champion Batch ’85 with 29 points as he ripped the net with fellow shooter Lou Regidor, cashing in from the perimeter that wreaked havoc on Batch ’88’s defense.

Jone Sepe, who pounded his way in the middle to finish with 18 points, Roy Aznar and Dong Bacallos provided the screens for Banaag and Regidor, building a 12-point lead midway through the third frame.

In the final period, Rudy Project tried to contain Banaag with a double-team only to have it backfire on them when Lindo Torrejos got the open looks to log 17 points.

Guardo Shiatsu ’85 (94) – Bannag 29, Sepe 18, Regidor 17, Torrejos 17, Gonzaga 6, Bacaltos 5 Aznar 2. Rudy Project ’88 (82) – Sauza 20, Monterroyo 20, Odulio 14, Auza 12, Gantuangco 6, Pilapil 6, Reyes 3, Biliran 2.
