Two Cebuano firms sponsor NBL
By Rommel C. Manlosa

M. LHUILLIER-CEBU (ML-C) is in high in spirits as it embarks on a quest to give Cebuanos something to be proud of when the team leaves today for Ozamis City for the opening of the National Basketball League National Championships at the Gov. Angel Medina Gym.

This came as two more Cebuano firms threw their support behind the NBL to help revive the spirit of regional competition by sponsoring the fledgling league.

The ML-C Jewelers are scheduled to play against the revitalized Spring Cooking Oil-Bulacan in the opening game on Saturday while Ozamis will take on Air Philippines-Bacolod on Sunday.

BJ Star Logistics Inc. and Nature’s Spring Drinking Water are now part of the NBL family, Pinong Galo, marketing manager for the Visayas and Mindanao of the NBL, said yesterday.

BJ Stars is responsible for transporting all equipment to all games venues while Nature’s Spring is the official drinking water of the league.

“This is the first time we have sponsored a sports league,” said Ric Batoto Jr., vice president for sales and operations of BJ Star. “We want to advertise our company so we can be known nationally and domestically.

“Our president and CEO Bryan Urdaneta made this consideration after we realized the potential of the domestic and national market.”

Arthur Ursal, PSWI regional sales manager of Visayas and Mindanao, even reiterated that they will give financial backing to Mandaue City if it decides to put up a team.
