Int’l investment forum aims to benefit Bohol
By Arvy E. Lopez

TO encourage foreigners and Boholanos who are working abroad to invest in Bohol, an International Investment Forum has been scheduled for next month.

According to Sandugo Festival executive director Loreto Palapos, the forum, which will be open to participants from the government and business sector, is expected to drum up interest by prospective investors in the area.

During the Kapihan sa Turismo held yesterday at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, Palapos said that since Tourism Secretary Richard Gordon considers Bohol the number one tourist destination in the country, investing in the tourism business in the area would be lucrative.

He also said some foreigners and tourists from all over Asia would attend the event.

Bohol, which will celebrate its annual month-long Sandugo Festival next month, is also expecting to attract foreign as well as local tourists for the activity.

Bohol Mayor Jose Torralba said the Sandugo Festival is a series of events that people will enjoy.

Aside from trade and food fairs and entertainment activities, several medical missions will also be open to the public, the mayor said.

During the kapihan, Cebu Task Force Turista representative Col. Amaron Morrock also took the opportunity to say that Cebu is a safe place for tourists.

He said the police applying extreme measures to prevent the kidnapping of tourists in Cebu, although this is not the number one problem of the police force in Cebu City.

Morrock said that since Cebu is a small island, kidnappers would have a hard time getting out of the area.

The problems that most tourists experience are robbery and theft, he said.
Morrock added that tourists who come to Cebu also commit unscrupulous crimes against Cebuanos.

The police has received several reports regarding tourists involved in illegal activities, such as drug dealing and prostitution, he said.

“Although the task force is intended for the safety and protection of the tourists who come to Cebu, we are also vigilant against these tourists who commit crimes,” he said.
