Aspac-Central nails 18th straight victory
By Jade S. Violeta

ASPAC-CENTRAL Philippines pulverized corporate rival EGL-K&N, 104-96, to put a step forward toward the TTH Club basketball tournament’s championship round yesterday at the SHS-Jesuit Gym.

Totsky Wycoco was unstoppable from the outside as he scorched the nets from beyond the arc, including two straight treys at the onset.

He finished with 23 markers, including seven 3-pointers, to lead Aspac-Central’s 18-game winning run that started since the team joined the tournament last year.

Aspac-Central Philippines never gave EGL-K&N a chance to taste the lead, establishing leads that went up to 20 points in the final half.

Alex Banaag tried to rally EGL-K&N back to life with two successive triples in the homestretch to ignite a 14-2 spurt that cut down Aspac’s lead to six, 96-100, which proved to be the best EGL-K&N could do.

Joel Melendrez, who scored Aspac’s last four points all from the 4.5-meter line, chipped in 19. Ex-UV Lancer team captain and former Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA) player Gary Cortes led all scorers of EGL-K&N with a game-high 26.

Aspac-Central Philippines (104) – Wycoco 23, Melendrez 19, Lastimosa 16, Gallardo 11, Morris 10, Carpio 8, Alilin 7, Densing 2. EGL-K&N (96) – Cortes 26, Upano 12, Ybañez 12, Faelnar 12, Banaag 11, Estenzo 7, Toribio 6, Fuentes 6, Flores 4, Ocampo 2.
