Kasibulan football program reaches more kids By Christian Ben Rodriguez
THE Philippine Football Federation seeks to further expand its reach in grassroots development as its pet project enters its fifth year in Cebu.
PFF Executive Vice President Juan Miguel Romualdez told reporters during the Sports Communicators Organization of the Philippines (Scoop) forum at Baseline yesterday that they will continue on targeting the young to take part in football at an early age through the Kasibulan program, which is for children aged 6-12.
Romualdez said encourage youth-oriented programs in Cebu like the Red Ribbon Under-14 tournament.
“We want to maintain the local competitions and also we have been able to promote regularly nationwide tournaments in almost all divisions from the seniors down to the under-10,” Romualdez said.
Romualdez said the program has reached over 50 provinces and 350 municipalities, cities and towns in four years. He added that city and town mayors, congressmen and other public officials have been supportive of the Kasibulan program.
Fifa, the world’s governing football body, has supported PFF with a donation of $1 million every four years. Romualdez said 80 percent of the money is thrown to the different programs of football in the country.
