Raid done on data conversion company
THE Business Software Alliance (BSA) has commended agents of the National Bureau of Investigation Intellectual Property Division for their successful enforcement action against a data conversion company based in Laguna.
According to a statement, a raid was initiated from a complaint filed by BSA for the alleged use of unlicensed software programs.
“We are pleased with the action of NBI for fully enforcing the copyright law. The raid should serve as a stern warning to those who continue to use illegal software in their business,” said Tarun Sawney, BSA regional enforcement manager for Asia Pacific.
The NBI IPR Division raided the data conversion company for suspected use of unlicensed Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Autocad Release 14, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Commander.
The NBI found insufficient licenses for the software programs and seized computers and software programs worth over P37 million.
The common types of piracy include end-user copying, counterfeiting, hard-disk loading, client-server overload, compilation CD-ROM piracy, and Internet piracy, the BSA said in the statement.
