P2.5M beach resort to rise in Argao
By Karen M. Flores

A PRIVATE investor will develop a three-hectare beach lot in Barangay Talaga, Argao into a P2.5-million resort.

It will have a restaurant, a bar and “a number of chalets,” each with its own veranda and a view of the sea.

According to the project development plan, sand may be brought to the area “to restore the beach to its natural beauty.” Mangroves there may also have to be pruned.

The developers, who were not named in the municipal resolution that approved the undertaking’s special land use permit, promised to “maintain reasonably low rates” to make it affordable to local tourists.

Town wants to defer FMV schedule revision

ALCOY is asking Capitol’s permission to defer revising its schedule of fair market values (FMVs), which is the town’s basis in real property tax collection.

In a resolution, Alcoy officials said that not only does the Municipality lack resources to conduct the revision next year, the increase that will naturally result from the re-assessment also will only be an “additional burden to taxpayers.”

Alcoy last revised its FMV schedule in 2001. This took effect last year. According to the Local Government Code, it should again do another revision next year, results of which will be applicable in 2005.

Council sets rules for vehicle use

THE Carmen Municipal Council has set guidelines for the use of the town’s government vehicles. It imposes “administrative sanctions” on the head of the department that misuses the vehicles, as well as on the driver.

In an ordinance, Carmen legislated that the penalty will include the disallowance of the expenses incurred for the unlawful trip, barring the department or person from further using the vehicle, and suspension of the driver for no more than five days.

Trips are to be covered by tickets issued by the mayor, administrative officer or department head. Officials and employees receiving monthly allowance are not allowed to use the vehicles.
