By Patrick C. Costelo

TEAM Cebu Natura got away with a one-par edge over Maple & Pine via countback to walk away with the championship of Casino Español de Cebu’s 5th Copa de Golf Tournament yesterday at the Cebu Country Club.

Meanwhile, Ricarte Santos took home the Casino Español Golfer of the Year honors after leading his team with an impressive 48 points in the competition, which had some 40 four-man teams.

In the Ladies event, Arlene Villordon beat Flor Streegan via countback to finish with eight pars as both finished with 39 points.

Bruce Dosado racked up Cebu Natura’s team-high 46 points under the Modified Stableford scoring system, while teammates Nilo Reyes and Romy Labares logged 45 and 44 points to combine for 135 points total.

Fourth man Deo Gabasa finished with an uncounted 43 as only the top three scores were tallied.

Runner-up Maple & Pine went down the wire for the No.1 spot as it finished with a similar 135 with Jimmy Du scorching with a team-high 48, while James Tolentino handed in 44 points followed by Moises Selma’s 43.
