SOUTH COASTAL ROAD. Work on the South Coastal Road has reached the coast of the Carbon area, 6.5 hectares of which are now being reclaimed. This is where the viaduct ends. An exit ramp will be built toward Carbon and a two-lane road leading to M.J. Cuenco Ave. The original plan to build an overpass in this part of Cebu City was opposed by groups promoting historical conservation. The groups didn’t want Plaza Independencia destroyed just to accommodate the overpass. A summary of the resolutions submitted during the Congress of the Laity of the Archdiocese of Cebu, held last June 22, has “hunger and thirst for holiness” on top of the list, with the need for role models and constant lay formation as ways to address the concern. The faithful also sees the need for uniformity in policies that govern parishes that would assure continuity of programs even with the transfer of the parish priest. [full story]
