I accomplished more than my predecessors: Toledo cop chief

THINKING politics was behind the comment made by a balikbayan on the illegal drugs situation in Toledo City, Supt. Ricardo Tarroza defended himself by saying that compared to past police chiefs, he had the best accomplishment among all.

The balikbayan, a relative of the political rival of the mayor, alleged that illegal drugs are so rampant in the place these are even sold in broad daylight. He made the statement in an e-mail to Sun.Star columnist Bobby Nalzaro, who printed it in his July 14 column.

That column prompted Senior Supt. Maximo Calimlim, Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) director, to have Tarroza explain his side on the allegation.

Tarroza, in an interview yesterday, said he has the best record in terms of drug apprehensions compared to police chiefs before him.

“I lead my intelligence group in making arrests. And I show up in court for all our cases,” he said.

Tarroza said the balikbayan, who came to Toledo City for the June 12 fiesta, might have noticed the drug pushers because the police at that time was concentrating on security.

He said their campaign against illegal drugs has not stopped.

He denied the existence of drug lords in Toledo City, saying there are only big-time drug pushers.

Tarroza also said no policeman in Toledo City acted as a sponsor in the wedding of a drug lord’s son, and challenged those who doubt his claim to produce evidence before making allegations.

He admitted, however, that he was in a three-cock derby in Barangay Bato, Toledo City sometime last June.

But, he added, it was to do surveillance after an informant told him drug pushers were in the place.
“I was with the son of the vice mayor, Eric Espinosa,” he further said. RHM
