WORLD No.3 minimum flyweight contender Eriberto “Yukka” Gejon lived up to his promise as he dropped heavy bombs to score a technical knockout win Saturday over Cenon de Ocampo of Misamis Oriental in the “Undefeated” boxing promotion of Rex “Wakee” Salud International at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

Jimrex Jaca, on the other hand, failed to score a knockout in a hard-earned unanimous decision against wily veteran Jaime Barcelona of Valencia, Bukidnon, who resorted to dirty tactics to survive the powerful fists of the RP super bantamweight champion.

Gejon displayed patience and accuracy as he stalked De Ocampo right from the opening round. He caught the Misamis Oriental fighter with big shots in the second round and carried the momentum to the third round to score his 18th win and his 10th knockout victory against one drawn fight.

Gejon caught the aggressive De Ocampo on the chin that sent the greenhorn on the seat of his pants. De Ocampo managed to beat the 10-count, but he failed to raise his guard, forcing referee Tony Pizons to stop the contest in favor of the Mandaue City native.

Meanwhile, Jaca dominated the first to the fifth round, scoring a knockdown with a vicious left. However, the current RP 122-pound champion failed to finish the job when the veteran journeyman started playing dirty to survive-pound.

After Barcelona regained footing, Jaca unleashed powerful fusillades, but the Bukidnon fighter was ready with a game plan – hitting the Inayawan-based fighter on his crotch twice – that gave him time to regain full consciousness.

Jaca tried to finish the fight on the sixth but Barcelona was able to withstand the barrage, and even dominated the next two rounds while Jaca’s strength slowly deteriorated under the wily tactics and consistency of the Bukidnon fighter. Barcelona was also deducted one point by referee Teddy Alivio on the ninth for anther low blow.

After 10 rounds, Jaca drew a 98-94, 96-94, 95-94 decision from the three ringside judges to stay undefeated after 21 fights.

Upcoming knockout sensation Dexter Delada also pulled an abbreviated victory over Mendosino Sebua in 2:57 of the fourth round of their scheduled eight-round contest.

JR Sollano also scored a knockout in 1:52 of the second round over Danilo Bayo in the 118-119lb encounter.

Meanwhile, Jake Verano of Valencia Bukidnon was on the losing end against veteran Edwin Gastador, but an accidental headbutt on the 1:03 mark of the fifth quarter rendered their 10-round encounter a technical draw.

Greg Mangan also won by unanimous decision over Aljun Salugaol, while Jayson Geda pulled a split decision victory over Remie Manalop in their six-round match.

The card was sponsored by Matt Mendoza, Jimmy Sy, Ching’s Palace, Olio Steakhouse, Jumilan Marketing, Eng’r. Sonny Salon and Roedil’s Printing Press. The proceeds of the promotion went to the coffers of the Association of Barangay Council of Mandaue City.
