Cebuanas slide to 3rd

SOUTHWOODS Golf and Country Club cruised with an imposing 180 net as the virtual champion extended its lead to 42-points over the trailing Wackwack in the Diamond division going into the final round of the 11th WGAP-Luzvimin Cup yesterday at the Cebu Country Club.

Meanwhile, Alta Vista slid to third in the Pearl division after slumping to its lowest production of 117 for a three-day total of 358 points, as Alabang took over the No.2 spot after scorching with the cluster’s third-day best 129 for a 369 total in the 72-hole event.

Bacolod forced a deadlock in the Ruby (Class B) division matching Negros’ 428 Day 3 finish and regaining form with its best tally of 151 points after dropping from a 150 start to a sloppy 127 in Day 2. Phil. Navy and Villamor are at the No.2 and No.3 posts with 409 and 373 points, respectively.

Lora Roberto, current Class O (0-10 handicap) No.2 in the individual list with 145 net, led Southwoods with a team-high 48 tied with teammate Tracy Locsin, the No.5 in the same class with 138 while Carmelette Villaroman added a 47 to to stretch the team’s lead from Day 2’s 27 to 42.

Wackwack, on the other hand, finished Day 3 with 490 points, just six points ahead of Canlubang’s 484. Sta. Elena is also within striking distance with 472 points, as Del Monte is fifth overall with 464.

Wackwack’s Stephanie Yu shot the day’s highest 51 points to lead he squad wile Liza Lopez and Nena Nakpil logged 50 apiece.

Canlubang’s current Class O leader Lina De Guzman continued her stellar performance after sizzling with her second 51-point performance to lead her team and the individual race with 151 points. Lucy Landicho ended Day 3 with 48 points for Canlubang while Teresa Carpio and Terry Parala had lackluster performances of 33 and 29, respectively.

In the Pearl division, Camp Aguinaldo maintained its reign with 376 points but Alabang is bound to give the leaders a run for its money in today’s last 18 holes as the former lurks just six points behind.

Malou Belandre hit a 39 to lead Camp Aguinaldo despite a four-point slump from her day-two production while Edith Apuya and Maline Flores pitched in 33 and 29 points, recpestively.

Scoring her second consecutive 41-point round, Gina Tuason top scored for Alabang but teammates Ofelia Carlos and Tina Javellana boosted their chase with 31 and 29, in that order, to hound the leaders.

Marina Kaufman finished the third round with 33 points for local bet Alta Vista as Joan Castillo and Baby Schaap handed 29 apiece while Rosemarie Alba and Cely Chongbian racked up 26 each.

Manila Golf is 15 points beneath to hold the Pearl division’s fourth spot with Karen Buenaventura heading the pack with her third 32-point finish while teammates Cora Suntay and Esther Sallee delivering 29 points apiece. The individual battle saw Wackwack’s Stephanie Yu tie Locsin at the fifth spot with an identical 138 as Sta.

Elena’s Carina Ricamonte and Eva Miñoza follow at seventh with 137 apiece.
Villamor’s Barredo holds the pole post in Class A with 127 points as Bacolod’s Kathleen Uy rules Class B with 121, and Melanie Villar currently tops Class C with a 78.PCC
