Banluta, Jarina log personal best in China

CEBU’S hottest triathletes Eldy Banluta and Mylene Jarina clocked their personal best records but finished at the tail end of the top 20 last week when hey saw action in the Shanghai ITU International Triathlon Sunday.

University of Cebu’s Banluta finished the 1.5-kilometer swim, 40km bike, 10km run event in two hours and four minutes flat to rack up the 20th spot in the Under-23 Male and 24th in the Male Elite category while Jarina finished 19th in the Elite Female cluster with a time of 2:31:48.

The course was a lot shorter than published, which caused a huge number of triathletes to finish unusually faster, particularly in the male category, where a lot finished the bike in under 60 minutes. Banluta’s bike time was a little past an hour in the event flocked by Chinese athletes.

The shorter course affected the results as many participants finished faster than expected and as a result, Banulta’s 2:04:00 finish was not recognized as the new national U-23 Male record. (AFP)
