Its in the bag By Joy Bernaldez
Romantic, smart, controlling, sweet, flirtatious, casual, rebellious, sporty, down-to-earth, undercover, sophisticated, tough, tender —women can be any, if not, all of these, for that matter. And people say the accoutrements in her bag are the most telling of her personality
and interests.
Joy in Fashion gave five interesting women surprise visits to ask them to reveal what’s in their bags. The experience was both fun and liberating. We never really and consciously know why we throw in the things we do into our purses, but it’s good to stop once in a while and take stock of why, how and who we are inside our bags.
GOLDA KING, a fashion marketing student of Philippine International School of Fashion and an eye-catching fashionista, was caught with her favorite and well-worn chocolate brown leather bowling bag which she bought a few years back for a measly P50 at Manalili.
Shu Uemura red rouge lipstick, Hemp Chanvre lip balm, Alchemy refreshing lip gel, Baby Bench Bubble Gum cologne, Og Mandino’s “The Greatest Salesman in the World”, discman, Urbandub CD, wallet, mobile phone and filofax with photos of family and friends.
ARCY GAYATIN, fashion designer, totes around the barest of essentials in her Fendi black and brown envelope bag.
Shades, wallet, checkbook, mobile phone, comb and drawer keys.
CONGRESSWOMAN NERISSA SOON-RUIZ cheerfully obliged us with a peek into her brown safari-printed leather tote bag which she recently acquired in Jakarta.
Black Louis Vuitton billfold wallet, cellular phone, Dior lipstick with lip brush, Flanax tablets (for headaches), Lexotan tablets (to relax her nerves), tissues, checkbook, L’Oreal White Perfect, Parker sign pen, an old mirror, spare cellular battery pack, small Anais Anais Parfum, calling cards, notepad, Cool Air Gums, and floss toothpick cuddles.
MARIE DE LA SERNA, undoubtedly the prettiest and youngest lawyer in town, works at the Public Attorney’s Office under the Department of Justice. Taking time off from her desk work at the time, she very gamely poured out the contents of her Coach brown leather shoulder bag.
Eyeglasses, shades, wallet, mobile phone, hair brush, make-up kit, rosary, hair shine serum, compact powder, ballpen, handkerchief, coin purse, car keys, old receipts and a lighter.
ADA MARTINEZ, slim, statuesque and sophisticated yet hyperactive wife, mother, golfer and businesswoman had her everyday native handbag with leather trim from Aranaz as her carry-all.
Furla coin purse, bottle of Maybelline Red Hot manicure, rosary, fan, old receipts from Rustan’s and Makro, credit card case, wallet, small make-up kit, lipstick, checkbook, cellular phone, ballpen, tissues, and rubber bands.
