JY Discovery Mall soon to have cinemas: exec

JY Square Discovery Mall will soon play host to cinemas.

“The mall will put up a cinema in a year’s time,” said Bobby Villareal, lease and marketing manager of Jovima Management and Development Corp., the parent company of JY Square Discovery Mall, JY Square and JY Square Supermarket.

There will be two to three cinemas, he told Sun.Star in an interview Thursday.

They will be housed in a structure that will be put up as part of Phase 2 of the Discovery Mall, he added.

Villareal was speaking on the sidelines of the food tasting at Hotei Japanese Restaurant, a mall tenant slated to have its grand opening today.

The leasing executive said JY Square Discovery Mall already had approximately 35 tenants, with five more tenants now undertaking construction in their spaces in preparation for opening.

Only the anchor space, which includes part of the second and third floors of the mall, and one prime space on the ground floor have not been filled, Villareal said.

For the anchor space, Villareal said Jovima was talking to department stores to fill the space.

As for the prime space on the ground floor, he said Jovima was looking for a company with a franchise from a Manila-based or international food outlet.

If the tenants for the remaining spaces are “franchises or branded,” he said Jovima would offer a “giveaway deal.”

“We’re very flexible in terms of the rates. We know that the investment you put in the franchise is already very big,” he said.

Villareal said the mall was also still accepting tenants for stalls and kiosks, with priority given to franchises.

The mall has three floors for rental space. The fourth floor, however, is a trade hall or multifunction hall.

“You can hold seminars, weddings, birthdays, mini concerts, film showing (there),” he said.
Engineer Joseph Yu is the owner of JY Square Discovery Mall.
