Disbursement of anti-drugs fund cancelled
By Jeanette P. Malinao

Today’s scheduled disbursement of the anti-drugs honorarium for local officials of Catmon, Carmen, Pilar, Poro and San Francisco has been cancelled.

Leaders of the towns, all from Cebu’s fifth district, called to inform the Office of the Governor that they won’t be going ahead with the meetings of the local anti-drug councils, where the pay-out of their honorarium would be made.

It was reportedly Rep. Ace Durano, the district’s political leader, who had the meetings cancelled.

A source said that what led Durano to decide to put off the gatherings was a “complaint” from one mayor that barangay captains not allied with them were given deputization forms for the anti-drug campaign.

Officials in the district reportedly don’t want political foes to be included in the deputization, which would earn them additional honorarium.

Mayors in the district, according to the source, even initially wanted that the honorarium be block-funded to them so they would be the ones to distribute to the barangays.

However, anti-drug council meetings in Consolacion, Mandaue City, Cordova, Sogod and Borbon will push through this Thursday as scheduled.

Capitol expects to release an estimated P5.9 million per month for the honorarium of deputized local officials.
