Kris files crime charges v. Joey before prosecutors
MANILA—Kris Aquino plays hardball with former lover Joey Marquez.
Last-ditch efforts by friends didn’t stop the talk and game show host from filing a complaint against the Parañaque City mayor over an alleged gun-poking incident inside a Makati City condominium unit last Sept. 22.
Aquino yesterday appeared at the Pasig Prose-cutor’s Office to sign the complaint detailing the charges against Marquez, which include physical injury, grave threats, grave coercion and illegal possession of firearm.
Her mother former president Corazon Aquino and her brother Tarlac Rep. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III accompanied her to the prosecutor’s office.
Mayhem took place when the popular TV personality emerged from her vehicle shielded by her bodyguard from photographers and reporters who had been waiting at the prosecutor’s office since early morning.
After signing the formal charge sheet, Aquino immediately left the court compound with her mother and brother in a convoy of vehicles towards Green Meadows Subdivision in Pasig to take a brief rest before another meeting with her family and advisers on the next steps she will be taking.
Marquez plans to get former senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago as his lawyer, said a lawyer who has been advising the actor-turned-mayor.
Former solicitor general Francisco “Frank” Chavez yesterday said that the last time he talked with Marquez, the latter was “still in shock” because he had not expected Aquino to make the public revelations during a nationwide TV newscast last Wednesday.
“My only advice for him was that he reach out to Kris since it is a private matter,” Chavez said, but reiterated his position that he will not be representing Marquez in the complaint filed before the Pasig prosecutor’s office.
Chavez said that even if pursued, the case against Marquez cannot prevent him (Marquez) from running for public office next year.
“He can still run, the prohibition needs a judgment by final conviction,” Chavez said, but added that even after conviction, Marquez “can still go to the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court.”
Meantime, Chavez said Marquez will be able to legally severe his marriage with his estranged wife, Vanessa Laxamana a.k.a. Alma Moreno.
Speaking to reporters during a press briefing in Manila, Chavez said he expects that “there will be a judgment by December” in the annulment case between Moreno and Marquez, where Chavez is representing the former basketball player.
The couple had seven children from their marriage and from previous dalliances before deciding to split up shortly after son Vandolph figured in an automobile accident from a holiday in Baguio City. (Sunnex)
This brings the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 closer to unmasking the owner of the shipment that has been linked to the killing of customs deputy collector Eduardo "Wewe" Lao and customs appraiser Bennett Soreño last July 24.
