Springdale, DBTC enter football final By Patrick C. Costelo
ANOTHER epic Don Bosco Technical Center versus Springdale battle looms in Elementary football after both teams topped the field after Sunday’s knockout semifinals in the Milo Little Olympics at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The Brian Liu-led Spring-dale blasted Lilo-an’s Til-tilon ES, 9-1, in the semis as DBTC reined in Guadalupe District, 4-1, to secure slots to the final on Saturday.
In the High School battle, University of Southern Philippines and DBTC will meet in the championship clash this weekend, while semifinal losers ANS and Don Bosco Missionary Seminary will see each other in the battle for third.
USP earned a final slot after it nipped ANS, 2-1, while DBTC slipped past DBMS, 3-1, to take the other ticket to the finals next Saturday.
Chess
Defending champion University of San Carlos-Boys High and University of Cebu topped the field after three rounds in the Secondary team chess with 10 points apiece as they wound up in a 2-2 deadlock in their third-round match up Saturday.
Sacred Heart School-Jesuits is a half point behind with 9.5 after containing Camp Lapu-Lapu Day High, 2.5-1.5, while Carmen National High School, which settled for a 2-2 draw with Don Carlos Gothong Night HS, and Abellana National School are currently at No.3 with nine points apiece in the 57-team field.
Camp Lapu-Lapu Day is in a triple tie with Carlos Gothong and Asian Learning Center as St. Louis, University of Southern Philippines and St. Alphonsus are jammed at fifth with eight points each.
The 37-team Elementary clash saw SHS-J nab the pole post with 13 points after thumping Alaska Elementary School, 4-0, while San Nicolas, which drew with Labangon, 2-2, trails close at second with 12 points.
Basak District and Laba-ngon are tied at the third spot with 11 points apiece, while tied at fourth with 10 points each are UC and Mactan Air Base ES.
While Don Bosco Technical Center, which yielded to UC, 1.5-2.5, is solo at fifth with 9.5 points as Mabolo and Subangdaku ES, Pardo District, Sotero Cabahug ES and Formation Center Kiddies Leaning Center are all at fifth with nine points apiece.
Badminton
In Elementary badminton, Jeffrey Dadol of Don Vicente Rama Memorial National School disposed off his fifth opponent in bracket A, City Central School’s Dominic Badal, to clinch a semifinals ticket in the Boys’ Singles against Zyruse Armian of Sogod Central School, who dumped Mobolo District’s Jay-R Alfafara in the quarterfinals.
