Trial of ex-cop resumes Nov. 6
By Grecar Nilles

THE hearing on the frustrated murder case against dismissed policeman Engilberto Durano will continue at the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Cebu City.

RTC Branch 12 Judge Aproniano Taypin denied the demurrer to evidence filed by Durano’s lawyer Salvador Solima after finding the evidence against the former policeman strong.

With his denial order, Taypin directed Solima to present his first defense witness when the hearing of the case resumes on Nov. 6.

Durano, Taran Deeph Singh alias Ricky Singh, Leonardo Jamili Gopar and Roy Pineda are accused of frustrated murder for their alleged attempt on Lloyd Carampatan’s life on April 3, 2001.

In his testimony, Carampatan said he saw Durano inside a car laughing before he fell to the ground, after being shot.

The prosecution said Durano wanted to kill Carampatan because the boy testified against Durano in his murder case.

Durano has been charged with murder for allegedly killing tricycle driver Rogelio Bacalso on Dec. 22, 2000 in Barangay Busay, Cebu City.

Durano, who is detained at the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center, is also accused of masterminding the kidnapping of then 11-year-old Ryan James Yu on July 21, 2001.
