Mordeno sets deadline for Palaro consent
By Christian Ben Rodriguez

DEPARTMENT of Education (DepEd) 7 Director Carolino Mordeno has given coaches until Friday to secure the parents’ consent of the athletes who will compete in the 2003 Palarong Pambansa in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

Mordeno told Sun.Star yesterday that the ultimatum will no longer be extended as he wants to have the final number of athletes so DepEd can complete the necessary preparations especially the budget.

He added that he wants the coaches to at least have one week of full training with the official athletes.

“We still have some paperwork to complete and also have the budget to scrutinize and as soon as we have the official list of athletes, then we can work on it right away,” Mordeno said. “We want to secure the parents’ consent as soon as possible because we do not want the time of the coaches to go to waste as they might be training athletes who might tell them at the last minute that their parents will not allow them to go to Tubod.

“A week’s training with the athletes who have the parents permit might be worth it rather than train with many and at the end have problems.”

Mordeno also said that the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) will send around 250 delegates inclusive of athletes, coaches and officials.
