ALA Boy top bills Bohol card By Rommel C. Manlosa
TWO of the New Generation ALA Boys Batch 2003 will showcase their talents in front of the Boholano crowd in Cebu boxing promoter Sammy G. Gello-ani’s “Superfight ALA Boys” on Sunday at the Our Lady of Consolacion Cultural Center in Guindulman town.
Topbilling the explosive promotion is a native son of Bohol and the pride of Candijay, Rey Bautista, who will be fighting veteran Ricky Escaner in a 10-round contest.
Bautista, the surprise gold medal winner of the 2002 National Youth Amateur Boxing Championship in Cebu City, will need extra strength to topple Escaner, who has fought the best of his division, including Z Gorres.
Aside from Bautista another hard-hitting member of the talented ALA Boys squad, Reynald Tribo, will test the toughness and endurance of teenager Nonoy Villaflor in a 10-round battle.
Fighting underneath are the talented fighters of the SGG Stable: Edmund Velayo, who will take on Wilmer Umadhay, and Ryan del Prado in his second professional fight against Donnel Marcos in the four-round curtain raiser.
Bautista has been sensational in his past two fights, including an impressive four-round demolition job of Rey Martizano last Aug. 30 at the Gaisano Country Mall, which made him one of the promising fighters in the bantamweight division.
Tribo, on the other hand, wants to bounce back from a lackluster victory over Tata Polinar as he eyes a good performance against the relatively unknown Umadhay.
Local amateur fights will serve as teasers.
