UC, other winners feted Monday

THE winning schools and athletes in the recently concluded 7th Milo Little Olympics-Visayas competition will be feted during the awarding ceremony on Monday at the Cebu Grand Convention Center.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, Cebu City Councilor Manuel Legaspi, chairman of the organizing Committee on Education, and Department of Education 7 Director Carolino Mordeno are among the invited guests in the ceremony, which will start at 9 a.m.

Also expected to attend the affair is Nestle-Philippines sports director Pat Goc-ong.

Seventh straight

The ceremony will be highlighted with performances by the Abellana National School Dance Troupe, Ashem Inojando and Marivic Lauron of ANS and the Team Cebu City Dancesport.
The University of Cebu Webmasters registered a dominating seventh straight championship title in the Secondary division with a total haul of 27 golds, 14 silvers and 17 bronze medals.

The University of the Visayas-Main bagged the overall championship title in the elementary division with 13 golds, four silvers and seven bronze medals.

Abellana National High School came in at third in the Secondary division with a gold-silver-bronze haul of 10-14-22, while the USC-Boys (7-3-5) and University of San Jose-Recoletos (7-2-8) completed the top five schools in the four-day, two-weekend multi-event meet.

Mabolo finished second behind UV in the elementary division with an overall total of 12-12-10 followed by the fallen defending champion Labangon District (6-4-9) at third, San Nicolas District (6-4-4) at fourth and USC-Girls (5-1-0) at fifth.

UC will also have five of its athletes honored in the ceremony as Most Outstanding Athletes in their respective divisions: Annabelle Nuñez (secondary athletics), Bitoon (secondary chess), Diane Cañeda (secondary swimming), Rizon (secondary badminton) and Maria Christina Ba-ay (secondary table tennis).

Also to receive citations are the other MOA awar-dees: Ryan Gerald Zara of Labangon ES (elementary athletics), Jewel Amor Collamat of Sogod ES (elementary badminton), Marc Hon Cuyag of Punta Prin-cesa ES (elementary chess), UV-Main’s Allen Miles Cas-tañeda (secondary gymnastics) and Maureen Gytha Cuizon (elementary gymnastics), Bernadine Niño Siso of USC-SGS (elementary lawn tennis), Jin Querubin of USJ-R (secondary lawn tennis) and Rogelio P. Sumayang III of Gothong (sepak takraw).

Other MOA awardees are Talamban ES’ Rene Tepait (sipa), William Davis Fleischer of Silliman University (elementary swimming), Danell Jay Tormis of Mabolo ES (elementary table tennis), Carmela Frias of Colegio del Sto. Niño (elementary volleyball), Roselyn Balingcasag of the University of Southern Philippines (secondary volleyball), Michael Angelo Realista of Gothong MNHS (secondary taekwondo), Purita Duldoco of Saint Anthony College (elementary taekwondo), Jan Michael Canoy of City Central School (elementary football) and Giovanni Jo Las Piñas of Don Obsco Technology Center (secondary football).

DBTC’s Rev. Fr. Jun Paradiang will do the affair’s invocation while the ANS choir will sing the Philippine national anthem.
