PEF to grant Jagna entrepreneurs P12M in funding

OVER 4,000 women in Jagna, Bohol now stand to benefit from the P12 million funding recently granted by the Peace and Equity Foundation Inc. to the Jagna branch of the Taytay sa Kauswagan Inc.

The fund is meant to engage the Jagna women in various microenterprises in the hope of enhancing their economic status.

The Taytay sa Kauswagan Inc., with 18 years in microenterprise development in various parts of the country, manages the fund.

During the ceremonial turnover of the fund last Sept. 18 in Jagna, Bohol, Enrico Garde, Peace and Equity Foundation Inc. executive director, said the foundation's vision is to see families able to remove or reduce poverty and become economically productive members of society.

Members of the Taytay sa Kauswagan Inc. board of trustees, flying in from the mother unit of the Taytay organization in Iloilo City, joined Garde in Jagna for the formal opening of the branch to the women entrepreneurs of the coastal mid-eastern Bohol municipality.

The Peace and Equity Foundation Inc. was formed as an independent non-stock, non-profit corporation in October 2001 by the Caucus for Development NGOs (non-government organizations) to support the work of civil society in eradicating poverty and marginalization. The foundation administers an endowment fund from the net proceeds of the Poverty Eradication and Alleviation Certificate (Peace) bonds developed and sold by Code-NGO in the capital market.

As a funding institution, Peace and Equity Foundation Inc. does not go into implementation of projects or undertake direct training and capacity-building programs.

It envisions empowered communities as those having basic needs, engaging in social-cultural and economic activities and participating meaningfully in local governance in an atmosphere of social harmony, cooperation and sharing.

The Visayan regional office of the Peace and Equity Foundation Inc. is located at the Pagtambayayong Foundation Inc. offices in P. del Rosario Ext., Cebu City. (PR)
