Sarthou: Gigs, gags on Halloween By Myke Sarthou Washday
A double celebration hits us this weekend as Oktoberfest falls on a Halloween weekend. If you plan to go out, as you probably would, here is a list of places you can go to for your trick or treating.
Your party weekend starts off on the 30th as SMB, Talentfolio and Y101 prepare for the opening salvo of the Halloween weekend in Gypsy Carnival under the Oktoberfest Moon at The Village Courtyard tomorrow. Myths, magic and music will enchant you as fortune tellers, goblins, belly dancers, henna artists and other characters will roam the village. Your favorite bands will also be there: Burning Culture, Cueshé, Drownd and many more.
On the 31st, the Courtyard transforms into Hallowood, an evening of glitz, glamour and groovy music with a Hollywood-themed party as the event pays tribute to Hollywood icons and movie stars of the last century.
A catwalk will reveal the seductive intimate collections of designer Dexter Alazas. Manila’s Skin will also be performing along with Cebu’s top party bands.
On the same night, Sinners and Saints goes retro in Alive, a dance party featuring Powertech and Southern Philippines’ hottest, Stagecrew. Alive celebrates life while we still can in this day of the dead. The concept is simple. It goes: “Party on folks while we still can.” A lot of sinners and saints will be there, too.
On its second year, Jukebox resto-bar celebrates the season with Howling Halloween. Aside from their regular bands, get scared to death with the scariest characters you can ever imagine as contestants vie for the Scariest Costume award and take home P10,000 in cold cash. It’s a drop-dead event for sure. Join their games and win a lot of prizes.
If you’d rather be under the moonlight on the eve of Halloween, maybe you’d like to drop by the Baseline parking lot as SMB, Y101 and Talentfolio put the cap on Oktoberfest for the grand finale of the beer month celebration. It’s a back-to-back celebration as Oktoberfest and Halloween fall on the same night. Just buy a cup of SMB and you’re ready to go. Acoustic showcase starts at 8 p.m.; party starts at 10 p.m.
I’m sure there are a lot more parties going on around the city. You can either go to these places or do your own witch hunting.
