Belcris projects doubling of sales, sets product launch
By Arvy E. Lopez

BELCRIS Foods Inc. expects a 100 percent increase in sales next year.

In an interview with Sun.Star yesterday at the Belcris Foods compound in Mandaue City, general manager Christine Dy said sales for Belcris’ processed meats increase by 20 to 30 percent each month.

Belcris Foods was formed in 1997 to make Chinese Mandarin sausage for the owner’s own consumption.

Now the company produces bacon, pork square hams, chicken and pork tocino, pork tapa, corned beef and shredded pork, Dy said.

The company is one of the leading suppliers of bacon, considered Belcris’ number one product, and other processed foods to Cebu’s hotels, restaurants, institutions and supermarkets.

Dy admitted the supply of manufacturing-grade meat from local hog raisers was low, forcing the company to import meat from other countries.

However, this was not seen to affect the company’s plans. Belcris will launch a new product, the Pineapple Ball Ham, later this year, Dy said.

Early this year, the Philippine Association of Meat Processors Inc. (Pampi) complained that local hog raisers produced only table-grade meat or the “pampalengke” meat like pork chop, belly and steaks.

Pampi said these parts are not the ones needed for making processed meats.
