Bacolod pulls out of NBL tourney By Rommel C. Manlosa
THE National Basketball League (NBL) is scampering to rearrange its game schedules anew after the sudden withdrawal of the Negros Occidental team, which is based in Bacolod City.
Negros Basketball Association (NBA) relayed the unfortunate development to the NBL on Tuesday. NBA president Oscar “Dodong” Bascon blamed the lack of time in organizing the team as the main reason of their withdrawal.
“We could not organize our line-up in time because of the schedule of our local tournaments. Our team is basically composed of young players so will now just focus on our preparations for the bigger NBL National championships next year,” Bascon said in his letter to the NBL board.
NBL had to revise the schedule of games, which opened last Oct. 24 in San Pablo City.
Defending champion Ozamis City, which earlier said it would be fielding a team for the tournament, announced its entry three days before the opening the game citing the need for the defending champion to defend its title and the team’s obligation to both the league and the people.
