Red Bull on with streak; FedEx into quarterfinals By Glenn Michelena
SEEMS nobody can stop the inspired rampage of Red Bull Barako at this point.
Red Bull, still riding high with import Scott Burrell, posted its ninth straight win in the Samsung-PBA Reinforced Conference last night with an 89-84 victory over the league-leading Coca-Cola Tigers in the first game of the doubleheader at the Philsports Arena last night.
The FedEx Express, on the other hand, plucked a quarterfinal seat as they eked out a 104-99 victory over the depleted Alaska Aces in the nightcap.
FedEx capitalized on the Ali Peek and Brandon Cablay-less Aces’ as they won their fifth game in 13 outings.
John Ferriols came up big for the Express as he notched 24 points and 12 rebounds to win Player of the Game honors.
Befitting a game that had both teams snarling for the bragging rights, Red Bull and Coca-Cola fought fiercely all game long, as the Tigers aimed to exact revenge on a team that gave them their only loss in the conference, while Red Bull had the overall leadership for the league in their sights.
What resulted was a tight game all the way. Red Bull led only by one, 18-17, at the end of the first quarter, led by two at the half, 44-42, end entered the fourth canto still only ahead by two, 67-65.
Red Bull finally pulled away in the final minute with their better play on booth ends of the floor.
Burrell didn’t score much, finishing with 17 points, but had such a magical impact on the team as Red Bull didn’t lose a single game after he came aboard. Lordy Tugade chipped in 16 points.
