Investigation ordered on boxer's death

PHILIPPINE professional boxing suffered another blow with another ring death.

Deaf-mute fighter Freddie Gimay died at the hospital after getting knocked out by Roger Gadian in their fight last Oct. 27 in Titay, Zamboanga-Zibugay province.

Gimay, a native of Bukidnon, was made a punching bag throughout the fight. He collapsed after the bout and died the following day.

Games and Amusement Board chairman Eduardo Villanueva ordered an investigation regarding the death of Gimay. The investigation, which will start within this week, will determine who is at fault for the death of the fighter.

Upon learning of Gimay’s death, Mindanao Senator Aquilino Pimentel Jr. has called for stricter measures to ensure the safety of the fighters. Pimentel said the senate could enact measures to prevent such incidents. RCM
