Danao City foot race on Dec. 24 By Jade S. Violeta
TOP runners from all over Cebu province will once again converge for the year-ending 24th Danao City Marathon-“Halad Kang Mano Amon” race on Dec. 24 starting at 6 a.m. at the Danao City Hall.
A total of P34,000 in cash prizes are being prepared for the winners in the 14 race divisions of the yearly event.
The top three finishers in the Men’s and Women’s Open divisions and the Danao-Men’s and Danao-Women’s divisions will receive P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, respectively, while the top three runners in the other 10 divisions will pocket P500, P300 and P200, respectively.
The other categories are: Elementary Boys and Girls, High School Boys and Girls, College Boys and Girls, Government Offices-Men’s, Government Offices-Women’s, Danao Executives and the Cebu Executives divisions.
Men’s Open defending champion Bowen Montecillo is doubtful if he can defend the title since he’s suffering from different injuries since his campaign in the Milo national finals.
However, Jaime Carillo and Arvin Loberanis, who finished second and third behind Montecillo last year, are once again expected to join the race alongside Women’s division defending champion, University of Cebu’s Christy Sevilleno, the most bemedaled runner in Cebu City this year.
Leizl Getaruelas is also expected to challenge Sevilleno anew along with Merlita Arias while Danao City’s Richy Kiamco, John Paul Basco Dondon Lauro and Ana Marie Esparte are again expected to dominate the All-Danao division.
