Orcullo wins finals, 11-10 By Christian Ben Rodriguez Sun.Star Staff Reporter
A NAIL-BITING cham-pionship match kept the audience on the edge of their seats Sunday when international campaigner Dennis Orcullo nipped the unheralded Junbert Ogang, 11-10, for the Class A title of the 2nd Sun.Star Superbalita 9-Ball Challenge at SM City-Cebu.
While grade-six student James Rama of St. Benedict School ruled the Elementary division over Pasil Elementary School’s Clifford Espinosa, 6-2. Rama went home P5,000 richer and Espinosa P3,000, in the event backed by Caltex Power Diesel.
A crucial miss by Ogang in the deciding 21st rack gave Orcullo a smile as the latter stood up for his turn, knowing the game was in the bag.
After 20 racks, the game was pressure packed with a 10-all deadlock.
Orcollo’s dangerous miscue earlier after a scratch gave Ogang a chance to finish the rack.
After clearing balls four and five, Ogang made a crucial error – one he knew would never get him back to the table – when the seven-ball stood between the cue ball and the six-ball.
With the miss, Orcullo jumped in delight as he went back to the table to finish off the rack and clinch the P65,000 prize money and trophy.
